FRIENDS MEMBERSHIP PAGE
Can you spare us a little of your time?
As at 24th April we have 134 paid up
"Friends" of the station, and we are very grateful for your
support. As a friend you will receive a membership card and our
quarterly newsletter "The Up Starter".
If you are able to give the station some of your
free time below is a flavour of the sort of help that is needed,
together with the relevant contact names.
Platform duties.
From April through to the end of October trains run
virtually every day. We need a minimum of 2 staff each and
ever day to look after passengers, sell train tickets,
dispatch trains and generally ensure the station is neat,
tidy and well presented. Full training will be given.
This all sounds very onerous, but it is all very relaxed
with plenty of time to talk to passengers, and have the odd
cup of tea! Even one day a month would be a great help.

Gardens.
These have won many awards over the years
and it is a tradition we wish to continue. Most of the work
is not heavy, although if you need more exercise there are
extensive areas of grass that need mowing during the summer,
and the autumn is great for bonfires and collecting up the
fallen leaves from the many trees on the station area.

Internal
Maintenance & Projects
At
Crowcombe Heathfield we have a small team whose role is the
maintenance of the station, the buildings, its boundary
fences, the platform furniture and other station items. We
carry out tasks such as cleaning and painting the buildings,
fences, benches and keeping the platform and surrounding
areas clean and tidy. You don’t need any special skills –
just a willingness to work with others to get the job done.
Of course if you have DIY skills to bring with you your
expertise will be most welcome. The main day for the team to
work is a Thursday (all year round), but if that’s not
convenient we can sort something out – there is always
something to keep you occupied at the station.
So if you fancy a little light exercise in
the country at an award winning station come and join

Catering & Retail Sales
On busy days such as Gala Days, we provide a good range
of sustenance for visitors, from our small but well
appointed kitchen. This is not just the domain of the
ladies, men are allowed and indeed we have some on the team!
On any day that trains are running we provide tea/coffee and
cake so there is always a need for help, virtually any day.
We sell a limited range of souvenirs, local jams,
confectionery and drinks - all proceeds which go into
station funds.
These jobs are a very good way of talking to visitors and
"selling" the railway.
